Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley combine the traits of being in or close to a ski resort with mountain living. The merger of the ski operations now means one pass is good at both Alpine and Squaw. Alpine Meadows is basically a residential community with only a few amenties. The village at Squaw offers resort shopping and dining. Located just a few miles from Tahoe City, both areas are as close to downtown shopping as most North Shore subdivisions and closer than many areas on the West Shore. Both area provide quick access to I-80 destinations of Reno and the Bay Area. Home ownership in these areas means avoiding the ski traffic on winter weekends and holiday. These areas have attracted both the serious skier and vacation users for years.
